Just thinking...what car brand sells the most stick shifts in America. I couldn't find any stats, but I feel like it would go something like this:

1. Mini
2. Mazda
3. VW
4. Subaru
5. Mitsubishi?
6. Scion?
7. Porsche?
8. Jeep?
9. Honda?
10.

Thoughts?

Hyundai is probably #1. mini doesn't sell nearly enough cars to be that high on the list.

1.Mazda

2.Subaru

3.Mini

4.Porsche

After that I imagine the numbers become too insignificant to measure.

I really don't think buying a Mazda with a manual is a good idea. There's already so much emotions added to the vehicle, adding a manual could be a bit overwhelming and cause many drivers to pass out while driving.

4) Hyundai (147)

5) VW (109)

6) Dodge (74)

7) Ram (72)

8) Nissan (65)

9) Mazda (59)

10) Honda (46)

I feel like Ford would be before Honda with the ST twins, Mustangs, and properly optioned Foui and Fiestas, plus a handful of Fusions. Also I just think that in the auto enthusiast world Ford has kinda moved into Hondas spot with no Civic Si hatch, and no Fit Si, and no fraking S2000.

You know the JDM YO! Fanboys? They've moved onto Hyundai/Kia with KDM STOCK. There are many stickers now. Their choice of car? Veloster, Veloster Turbo, Genesis Coupes.

BMW, if only for the fact that they're pretty much the only luxury manufacturer that still offers a manual transmission in a decent number of their products.

By volume or number offered?

Ford and Chevy are up there Im sure. I see a lot of Camaros, Vettes and Mustangs with manuals.

Are we talking volume or take rate (percentage sold with manual)?

Because Mini and Porsche are probably really high on Take Rate but volume will likely be really low because they sell less than ~100,000 vehicles each.

Hyundai and Kia are probably pretty high on volume because the accent/rio/soul/elantra offer manual on the base model to get people in the door for a sub-$15,000 car. Also keep in mind that Toyota still sells plenty of Tacomas with manual gearboxes even though we don't see many.

Also, about 1/3 of the Sonics I see are six-speed manual so it's likely high there, too. VW has a high take rate, from what I see.

I think you can knock Mini right down that list. A lot of the Minis I see at the shop are CVTs.

i worked as a dealer at a Mazda dealer, we very rarely got manuals. I think we had 2 or 3 out of the 30-40 Mazda 3's we had. I think the only times those cars moved was when I moved them around the lot. I think we sold one manual in an entire summer
